With the slogan "We have a say, we have the power ," we insisted on peace at peace points, on the streets, at conferences and in the Parliament for the past 4 years. In this war, all women, the Kurdish women foremost, have been heavily affected.

Dear Women,

Women's peace struggle is not new in Turkey, it has been continuing since 1980s... We became part of this struggle in 2009, under the name of Women's Initiative for Peace. We have shared what we have experienced and witnessed as well as our feelings during the years of extreme violence. We have believed that understanding each other would get us one step closer to peace.

With the slogan "We have a say, we have the power ," we insisted on peace at peace points, on the streets, at conferences and in the Parliament for the past 4 years. In this war, all women, the Kurdish women foremost, have been heavily affected. We have seen, experienced, and told that war means poverty, migration, male violence, losing of language, dis-identification, exclusion and deprivation of rights.

The process of peace negotiations is now standing in front of us. As women, we have not only experienced the war but have also struggled to end it. We have tried to create our peace policies. There is no longer a return to home from here. Therefore, we, as women, are actively participating in the peace process. We have the experience and the know-how to get involved in every stage of this process. We are here today to determine how we are going to participate in this process together. As women, we are together to include women in the peace process, to find the mechanisms through which we will be involved in this process, and to realize social peace and to create a democratic society. We give a high importance to this conference through which we also aim to mobilize ourselves. We want the peace in Turkey to be permanent and to contribute to the construction of a society that is democratic and equal in terms of gender. We have organized this conference with the participation of women from different backgrounds to determine our road-map. We remain together all the time as components of the women's movement, feminists, women from the Democratic Free Women's Movement, women in trade unions, women in professional organizations, women in political parties, woman MPs, women journalists, wise (Akil) women, women in academia, and women human rights defenders.

As a result of the knowledge we have gained in our meetings where we also talked about world experiences, we have seen that women have participated in peace processes in various ways and their participation has ensured sustainability of peace. In some places, women took part on the negotiation table, in others they have made their own parallel peace, or undertaken roles such as experts, observers, contact groups or mediators.Today, through this conference, we are going to talk together about our demands for evolving the current peace process into permanent and real peace as well as about the mechanisms through which we will get involved in the process.

Permanent peace will only happen with women.

Turkey should apply the UN Resolution 1325 in order to open the way for women's participation in peace processes, and it should develop a national action plan with the participation of women. The provision of safe withdrawal in this process is essential for the sustainability of peace.

We will speak out our demands for democracy and gender equality louder and by multiplying our voices in order to realize social peace. Before continuing with our program, we would like to emphasize that we are among the parties against the state violence enforced on May 1.

This conference is just a beginning, not a result.

We, women, are not just watching but struggling for peace.

If women are absent from peace negotiations,

Peace will not be social

It cannot be sustained,

localized

become transparent

be gender-sensitive

or compensate for the losses and damages.

A Just and Equitable Peace Will Not Happen Without Women's Participation!
